The children and I read, The Way to Start a Day by Byrd Baylor and illustrated by Peter Parnall. I found this book really awkward to read with the children and the placement of the words on the pages is confusing. We didn't end up finishing it. The illustrations are really cool, but it should be used with older children who are possibly studying other cultures. Next we read, Pancakes for Breakfast by Tomie DePaola, which is a wordless book. The children seemed to like it. I asked them some questions and had them dictate what was happening in the picture and make predictions.
